The Great Library Reading Challenge
Don't let your brain turn to mush over semester break! Take the Great Library Reading Challenge and preserve your gray cells.
Simply read any book between December 21, 2007 and January 9, 2008 and then tell us about it on our Facebook Group, Hey VU! Whatcha Reading?
A new study from the National Endowment for the Arts shows that reading levels and literacy scores are down across most age groups. To see the To Read or Not To Read: A Question of National Consequence, click here. Here are some of the scary statisitcs:
- 65% of all college freshmen read for pleasure for less than one hour per week or not at all.
- The percentage of non-readers among these students has nearly doubled - climbing 18 points since they graduated high school.
- By the time they become college seniors, one in three students read nothing at all for pleasure in a given week.
